Total travel time is typically 12-18 hours depending on the route and layover. Visas: The Schengen Question
Most of continental Europe operates under the Schengen visa system, meaning one visa covers travel across 27 countries — but the application has to go through the embassy or consulate of your main destination country, requires an appointment, and needs supporting documents including proof of accommodation, travel insurance, and sufficient funds. The UK operates a separate visa system outside Schengen. Processing can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on the country and season, so it’s worth starting well ahead of your travel dates — we help confirm exactly what’s required and when to apply.
Best Time to Book
For summer travel (June-August, Europe’s peak season) or December holidays, we recommend booking flights at least 2-3 months ahead — fares rise and seats fill quickly during these windows. Shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October) often offer better prices and comfortable weather.

Pack for variable weather even in summer, confirm whether your specific destination requires any additional entry documentation beyond the visa, and keep both digital and printed copies of your visa approval and travel insurance for the trip.
