Booking to Tanzania on a Delta ticket? Here’s what you need to know — Delta doesn’t fly there itself, so here’s how the connection actually works, plus baggage rules and booking links.
Delta Air Lines is one of the largest US carriers, hubbed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and a founding SkyTeam member. Delta itself does not operate flights to Tanzania — there’s no Delta-branded aircraft on the ground in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar. Instead, around 40% of North American travelers to Tanzania book a Delta/KLM routing: a Delta or joint-venture flight from North America to Amsterdam, connecting onto KLM’s own nonstop service to Kilimanjaro (KLM is the largest carrier serving Kilimanjaro) or Dar es Salaam. Your ticket may show a Delta flight number for the KLM-operated segment under their codeshare agreement, but the aircraft, crew and service are KLM’s.

Baggage Allowance
Standard allowance: Delta’s own baggage policy applies to the Delta-operated portion of your journey (typically one bag up to 23kg in Economy on international routes), while the KLM-operated Amsterdam-Tanzania leg follows KLM’s baggage rules — these are usually aligned under the joint venture, but check both when booking.
Excess baggage: can be pre-purchased online at a discount or paid for at the airport; rates vary by route and which carrier operates each leg.
Sports & special equipment: golf bags, diving gear and similar sports equipment are generally accepted as part of your checked allowance or for an additional fee — confirm with both Delta and KLM given the mixed itinerary.
