Flying Coastal Aviation to the Serengeti, Zanzibar or beyond? Here’s everything in one place — routes, baggage rules, and a direct link to book or manage your flight.

Coastal Aviation (trading as Coastal Air) is one of Tanzania’s longest-running safari airlines, founded in 1987 and based at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. It operates a fleet of Cessna Caravans on scheduled flights linking the national parks, the coast and the islands — including many remote bush airstrips that can’t be reached by the bigger jets — with onward reach into Kenya and Rwanda.

Manage Your Booking & Check-in

Coastal Aviation doesn’t offer self-service online check-in — check-in happens at the departure airstrip, typically 30-60 minutes before your flight. Book or manage your reservation through the Coastal Aviation website.

Baggage Allowance

Standard allowance: 15kg per passenger, inclusive of all hand baggage, in soft-sided bags — rigid suitcases generally can’t be loaded into the aircraft’s cargo pods (cargo door is roughly 36cm x 68cm). Some aircraft offer a premium XL seat option with a 30kg allowance, subject to availability.

Excess baggage: carriage of excess baggage is at the airline’s discretion and subject to available space — arrange in advance where possible, at an extra cost.

Sports & special equipment: due to limited cargo space on light aircraft, bulky sports or camera equipment should be flagged when booking so it can be weighed in with your allowance.
